QUEST FOR FREEDOM {WCP}

Hello friends,

Life seems to be back on track and I am clicking more and more, always on a quest to find a better picture. To shake up things on the Photography front, I participated in the Global Photo Walk by 500px on 17 Sep 2016 and ain’t I glad. The photowalk started at the Deira Fish Market & covered the Gold Souk, Spice Souk and of course the creek. Somehow my fascination for fish markets took over and I spent a lot of my time here. One of the last images I liked in the fish market sits so well in the Weekly Photo Challenge – Quest.

As I was about to exit the fish market, I noticed a dead fish lying on the drain cover. I couldn’t help but feel sorry for that little fish as my mind conjured up a story about its quest for freedom and its way back home. From getting caught in the nets of the fishermen that morning to being brought here in a bucket full of fellow fishes to somehow managing to jump out of the bucket and somehow finally reaching as far as the drain cover but finally not being able to get through the narrow openings in the drain cover and dying lying there in the Dubai heat – huh… my story was complete. The story of that lone fighter on it quest to find home again. Sad it died but at least it tried!

The Lone Fighter

All this happened within a few seconds of looking at this fish. I clicked the picture and then went away. Its funny how the human mind can travel in so many different directions and make us feel much more than what we see.

Anyhow, hope you get it too.

Cheers & Joy, Always!

The BRUGGE I fell for…

Hello!!!

Every few weeks I bring to you stories from my European Swirl. Today it’s all about my Love Affair with Brugge. It’s about what I saw and what I felt, making me fall totally and completely in love with it.

Brugge at first is a treat for your eyes. A trip here is like a walk through Medieval Europe. The Gothic structures all around in brick as well as multiple colours speak volumes of the architectural influences of Northern Europe & the Baltic here. The Cathedral, Belfry, Churches & Historical monuments are all worth seeing. Constructed as per the medieval street pattern where all lanes/streets lead you to the public squares, Brugge has a number of  crisscrossing lanes, confusing tourists as hell. The canals all around don’t make it easier either, but definitely beautify the town more.

As you meander the streets, you witness the culture, the local way of life and appreciate the simple living. I can easily proclaim that Waffles & Frittes define a wholesome Belgium meal, paired with some fine local beers and of course exotic Belgian Chocolates. You have plenty of options throughout Brugge to try all of the above. If this doesn’t fill you enough, a mug full of Belgian Hot Chocolate will surely do.

Even though I’ve said enough, my enough ain’t even close to enough. So to conclude, I feel the local handicrafts(Ceramics & Embroidered goods) need at least an honourable mention here. I spent only close to 10 hrs exploring Brugge and it still managed to make a mark on me and now occupies a special place in my heart.

A WEEKEND BAKED WELL!

Hello!!!

My title today is indicative enough that I’ve been busy baking this weekend. Although I’ve never mentioned it before but I do enjoy baking, a lot. I’ve done a lot of cakes & muffins in the past but baking cookies has been a first for me. So here’s presenting my first batch of Oatmeal and M&M Cookies. Thank you Bakerbettie for the amazing basic cookie recipe. Always on a quest to make healthier baked goods, I tweak all my recipes for the better. Today, I just replaced the White flour with Multigrain flour(1cp) & Oatmeal (1/2 Cp) , Sugar with powdered Jaggery & of course Chocochips with a cup full of M&M(nothing healthy here). As this was my first attempt at baking cookies, mine were a bit overcooked around the edges. But they tasted like heaven. These melt in your mouth cookies are a must try for all you M&M lovers.

Here’s a glimpse. Enjoy!

Cheers & Joy, Always!
